Holliday, Marta
I am currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Languages and Literatures at Alabama State University, where I have taught since 2011. I received my PhD in English from the University of Iowa, also in 2011, and I received my Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing from Marymount College of Fordham University in 2004. My academic writing interests have focused on how biracial femininity is represented and quite frequently exploited in American and African American literature and film, from the antebellum period well through the present day. At the same time, some of my greatest passions have centered around creative writing, especially poetry. As a child, and even well through my graduate career, I was a very shy person and poetry was one of the avenues in which I could express my voice and truly be heard. I enjoy working with free verse poetry, and I also enjoy working with haiku. My poetry topics are primarily autobiographical in nature.
